Phi Kappa Phi chapter honored as Circle of Excellence Silver Chapter
The — the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines — has recognized the University of North Georgia (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½) chapter as a Circle of Excellence Silver Chapter for 2020-21. This is the second in time in three years ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ has been honored.
The award is given to chapters that exceed expectations in operations and demonstrate sustainability and vitality as a chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. It is given to chapters that scored a 90-94 out of 100 on a criteria scale that evaluates chapter health indicators.
"This recognition is particularly meaningful for us because of the close alignment with our university values: excellence, student focus, integrity, engagement, and service," said Charlotte Wade, president of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½'s chapter.
To be invited to join Phi Kappa Phi, juniors must be in the top 7.5% of their class, while seniors and graduate students must be in the top 10%.
Wade is director of compliance oversight at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½.
The program recognized 67 chapters this year, including 26 with the Silver distinction. Phi Kappa Phi has chapters on more than 325 campuses in the United States and the Philippines.
Students offer free tax preparation
Students pursuing bachelor's and master's accounting degrees at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ are providing free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program sponsored by the IRS.
Sales student places in top 20 of event
ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ student Billy Brown placed in the top 20 out of 360 competitors in the Speed Selling Finals at the Northeast Intercollegiate Sales Competition held Nov. 14-15 at Bryant University.
