Summer Programs

 The ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ College of Education (COE) houses multiple ongoing summer programs for children, youth, and practicing educators. These summer programs exist in partnership with local school districts, promoting active involvement with the community, benefiting the students, faculty and the larger community that ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ serves. These partnerships are crucial for our success, particularly those with local schools and health organizations.

Summer Scholars Stem Institute

The Summer Scholars STEM Institute (SSSI) is a free, hands-on program for rising 4th–8th grade students, with a focus on supporting multilingual learners through engaging science and engineering experiences.

Students explore STEM through interactive, inquiry-based activities, while pre-service teachers gain valuable classroom experience using culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices.

The program runs for 15 days in June, Monday–Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students are recruited through participating school districts, and transportation, meals, and all materials are provided at no cost.

Steps to College Summer Program

Steps to College (S2C) is a free, for-credit summer program at University of North Georgia for multilingual high school students learning English.

Designed in partnership with local school districts, S2C helps students strengthen their English skills, earn credit toward graduation, and experience college life in a supportive environment.

The program runs in June, Monday–Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and serves about 100 students each summer. Transportation, meals, and materials are all provided at no cost. Students are recommended by counselors and ESOL teachers from participating high schools.
